From the moment we are born, we are taught to seek approval. We look to our parents for validation, our teachers for grades, and our peers for acceptance. This external validation becomes how we make choices. But what happens when those choices take us away from who we actually are?

The Trap of People Pleasing

People pleasing is not about being kind. It is about control. It is an attempt to manage other people's perceptions of us so that we never have to face the discomfort of their disappointment. The problem is that you cannot control how others perceive you.

When you twist yourself into knots trying to be what everyone else wants you to be, you eventually wake up one day and realize you have no idea who you actually are.

Finding Freedom in Disapproval

It is surprisingly freeing when people dislike the real you, rather than loving a fake version of you.

The courage to be disliked is the courage to be free. It means being okay with people misunderstanding you. It means you stop letting other people's opinions decide your worth.

"Your life is not a performance. You do not need an audience to validate your existence."

Start small. Say no to something you do not want to do. Express a harmless opinion that goes against the grain. Notice how the world does not end when someone disagrees with you. In fact, that is exactly when your world begins.
